What each category covers (gov.uk)
- Category C (Class 2): rigid vehicles over 3,500kg with a trailer up to 750kg. Bin lorries, tippers, urban delivery.
- Category C+E (Class 1): Category C plus a trailer over 750kg - artics and drawbars. Long-haul work.
- You must hold Category C first before you can be tested on C+E (gov.uk).
Which one first?
- Most people go straight to Class 1 because C is included on the way and job pay is higher.
- Pick Class 2 only if you specifically want rigid work (waste, construction, local multi-drop).
