What is the D2 form?

The D2 application form is the official DVLA form used to apply for provisional entitlements for lorry, bus and minibus categories. When filling it out, ticking all the relevant category boxes ensures you gain the maximum provisional entitlements in one go - saving you time, money and hassle later.

Key boxes to mark (Section 1)

Based on current DVLA guidance, here are the boxes you should mark with an "X". Ticking all of these is free and future-proofs your licence:

• C - Lorries over 3.5 tonnes
• C1 - Medium-sized lorries (3.5 to 7.5 tonnes)
• C1+E - Medium-sized lorries with a trailer
• C+E - Large lorries with a trailer (Class 1)
• D - Buses and coaches
• D1 - Minibuses
• D1+E - Minibuses with a trailer

Why you should tick all boxes

Ticking all boxes (C, C1, D, D1, etc.) means you won't have to fill out another form or pay for a new medical (D4) if you later decide to drive a different vehicle - such as a coach or a larger trailer.
