Most people do not pay for HGV training in one go. If you are searching for HGV licence finance, HGV training monthly payments or pay monthly HGV course, there are two routes at HGV Academy: monthly finance through our credit broker partner, or our 0% in-house payment plan. This guide explains both, what you need before applying and the exact steps to take.
Step 1: get a course quote first
You cannot apply for finance without knowing the amount. Your price depends on the licence you want, where you live and how much of the process you have already completed, so build a quote before anything else. Your quote gives you a reference number that both finance routes use.
Get your course price
Build your quote in a couple of minutes so you know exactly what you would be financing.
Step 2: choose the route that suits you
Route A - monthly finance through Ideal4Finance
- Apply online or by phone; a panel of lenders searches for an offer based on your circumstances.
- No deposit is normally required, and terms typically run from 12 to 60 months.
- A credit check is carried out and acceptance is subject to status.
- Once accepted and funded, your course is paid up front and all your dates can be booked, so this is usually the fastest route to a licence.
- You repay the lender monthly with interest at the rate they offer you.
Route B - 0% in-house payment plan
- A private payment agreement directly with HGV Academy. No lender, no broker, no application to be declined.
- 0% interest and no credit check, soft or hard.
- A first payment starts the course - your D2 and D4 forms, medical, theory test bookings and theory revision kit. The standard first payment can be reduced on request.
- The balance is split into equal monthly payments on dates set out in a written agreement.
- Driving lessons, the practical tests and Driver CPC Module 4 are released once the final payment clears, so this route takes longer overall. You can clear the balance early to speed it up.
Step 3: what you need before you apply
- Your quote reference from the course builder.
- Proof of identity and your UK address history.
- Your employment status and income details (credit finance only).
- Bank details for the monthly payments.
- Your driving licence - you need a full UK car licence and to be at least 18.
Step 4: apply
For credit finance, contact us with your quote reference so the course total can be confirmed, then complete the Ideal4Finance application online or by phone and wait for the lender decision. For the 0% in-house plan, apply online: you confirm your quote, choose your first payment and the number of months, then submit the application and we send the written agreement.
Apply for 0% in-house finance
Pick your first payment and how many months to spread the rest over, then apply online.
Which route gets you driving sooner?
Credit finance is normally quicker, because the course is funded at the start and every date can be booked. The 0% plan is slower but has no credit check - after the final payment clears, it takes around 2 to 4 weeks to confirm your dates for CPC Module 3a, 3b and Module 4.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get finance for my HGV licence?
Yes. You can apply for monthly finance through a regulated credit broker, which is subject to status and a credit check, or use HGV Academy's 0% in-house payment plan, which has no interest and no credit check. Build a course quote first so the amount is confirmed.
Do I need a deposit to finance HGV training?
Finance through our credit broker partner normally needs no deposit. The 0% in-house plan starts with a first payment, which can be reduced on request, followed by equal monthly payments.
Can I get HGV finance with bad credit?
You can still apply. Lender panels consider a range of credit profiles and acceptance is never guaranteed. If credit finance is not right for you, the 0% in-house plan involves no lender and no credit check at all.
How long does HGV finance take to arrange?
A broker decision is usually quick and, once funded, training and test dates can be booked straight away. The 0% in-house route takes longer overall, because driving lessons, tests and Driver CPC Module 4 are released once the final payment clears.
Ideal Sales Solutions Ltd t/a Ideal4Finance is a credit broker and not a lender (FRN 703401). Finance is subject to status and acceptance is not guaranteed. Missing payments can lead to financial difficulty and harm your credit score.
